A good trip I done way back in the 80s by bicycle was ferry to Bergen Norway and a slow plod down to Santander in Spain, obvious problem would be the expense of the ferries but it is a good route. The western Fjords of Norway, given reasonable weather are an obvious highlight.

We also had 6 weeks in 2004 (after having 70 weeks in 2000/1 LOL) and went French alps, french riviera,Tuscany,Slovenia,Croatia,Austria,Germany. That was a nice route aswell.

When doing a long tour I try and maximise my time in more difficult to reach areas afterall you can camp in france preatty much anytime were croatia/Greece etc needs more time.

Greece and Turkey are wonderful camp options aswell if you have longer time.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

I spent 5 and a half weeks in France this summer, with my two kids (9 and 12) and we had a fantastic time.

First rate advice I had on here (From Val IIRC) was to spend more time in sites in between longer road trips.  This was excellent advive for us as we the made the most of explorig the areas we had visited.

It was the best family holiday that we have ever had. I'm planning a similar trip this year.

Hi me again,

I,ve spent time reading a lot of your blogs etc ( and starting to dream). I,m getting very atrracted by the Dunkirque and turn left idea with a particular focus on continuing left up into scandinavia . Its an area I have always wanted to see but I tend to get put off by concerns about cost of living etc. Particularly on an extended trip it would be esay for things to become prohibitive.

Amybody got any top tips for "scandinavia on a budget"?

cheers

John

My parents always decide to turn left when reaching Calais because of the different way of life in Germany. They detest how people spend there day in France! However theyy do enjoy Spain!!

Agree with them Notts 90 over France but Spain always worries me having had a tyre slit over there.  Luckily they never caught up with us as the tyre did not go down till 6/7 miles down the road.  Give us Germany and Austria every time.

Ok me again!

Following various ideas on this thread we are now armed with:

A camping card international

An acsii card and book

A ferry ticket to Esjberg early September

A ferry ticket back from Zeebrugge early October.

So just over 4 weeks ( family wedding knocked the six week plan on the head!) to pootle from Esjberg in Denmark back through Germany, Holland and Belgium.

Although we will make up the route as we go any recommended sites on this run would be appreciated.

thanks

John
