What about sites that do annual/permanent pitches for tourers? Is there a directory or something. We don't want a mobile home on a "park" among dozens of other mibiles. But a permanent pitch on a "proper" campsite would be lovely.
Anyone got any ideas?

Plenty of campsites in France have Mobile home/Statics that look a bit more substantial than similar on UK sites & thankfully they don't pack'em in rows like in the UK. The French also appear less strict about the age & appearance of statics as many are old & have had bits added.

If you wanted to site a touring caravan permanetly I'm sure many sites would accomodate you. On plenty of large coastal sites you will see various tourers with wooden sheds & paving slabs that obviously never move. If you look on the websites of many French campsites you will see the price lists include annual fees if you want to site a caravan permanently.

There is a British Owned site that stores 200 vans for mostly British Owners and there are usually vans for sale throughout the year. If you are interested in buying a British Van contact them

Sorry old thread resurrection time. Looking at either buying (used) or moving a van to a French site like the one above. Anyone know a similar site a little further south.

Many thanks.

Camping Le Paradis at St Leon sur vezere, beautiful site. Check out their website. They have some local storage
And will arrange to have your van brought onto the pitch you choose and then taken back into storage. They are dutch owners speaking good english. 5 star site with lovely pools and restaurant.

our site on the Vendee does what youre looking for and one English family certainly takes advantage of their van being 'pitched' for them before they arrive and stored under cover when they leave. so I assume there are probably loads of sites in your search area (down south!) if you identify what you want from the site and where, you can start to narrow down the contenders.

if I was you though I would look to either buy an English van or even possibly arrange for one to be 'shipped' out for you (plenty of van men on shiply etc)- the reason I suggest an English one is that if you need spares etc, youre more likely to be able to track them down in the UK during your 'non holiday period' - uk type plugs etc for appliances .... you will need to carry out planned maintenance remember and if you ever intend to get it back on the road for touring after a few years I would suggest getting it checked out etc, brakes, tyres.

We bought a french Sterkenan caravan and store it in France, not far from Angers, for 185 euros year (indoor, secure storage) ...

far cheaper than ferry costs and a boon for starting/finishing hols.

We store our caravan on a site in the Ardeche, where they will tow it to a pitch for you each time you want to use it and take it away again when you leave. You can use the pitch on the site, or tow it away and tour elsewhere, and when you return it they will tow it back into storage. It costs us 185 euros a year, and then we just pay for the nights we occupy the caravan whilst on site.

We've just renewed ours - price has gone up by five euros for this year, to the 185 quoted above. A night on site costs us one Camping Cheque until the 13th July and that includes electrcity and free WiFi to the pitch.

We bought a touring caravan 8 years ago to take over to France. We purchased a 1998 Avondale van in very good condition. We had it serviced and the tyres were replaced before we left the UK.
We store it at the site we love, just outside Royan. We pay 260ish euros to store it there; the owners bring it to the pitch and then tow it to the storage compound at the end of the holiday. They also wash the outside too. We couldn't move it now even if we wanted to, as it is full of kit (Gas BBQ, tables, chairs, parasols, sunloungers, 2 fridges, bikes). This setup suits us well, as we don't have time to caravan in the UK and also like to experience other sorts of holidays throughout the year, so don't want the expense of UK storage. But we need our annual French 'fix'! If we ever consider selling the caravan, we would sell it on the site in France, as plenty of people do this every year.

Another site in the Loire that will store your caravan and has a great pool is Les Saules in Cheverny. Worth a look and Laurent the owner is brilliant
