The bearings need to be removed & inspected for wear, the newer trailers will have sealed maintainence free bearings I think. The older sort need greasing with the correct grease, ie specified for wheel bearings. They may also have seals that should be replaced at every service. Any trailer parts supplier will advise.

we have had one for years- couldnt do without it now. At the time of our research we found it cheaper to order one from Dunkirk  even with the daytrip ferry crossing it still came out cheaper than UK prices- Feu Vert i think was the company.

We also picked up a small wheel clamp which we use whenever we are stopped- also useful for overnight slepovers for piece of mind.

We bought a special bike rack to go on the top so we can take 3 bikes on the trailer and 2 on the back of the car.

The disadvantages are on the outward and return journeys where you have to take up 2 spaces in the supermarket carparks and you sometimes have to park in the lorry spaces at services as selfish cars without trailers are invariably parked in the trailer spaces.

If we are stoppimg overnight in B'B's or Etaps etc we check there is enough room. The out of town Etaps are usually OK but the city centre ones can be tricky. Once on the campsite we lock it up and use it for storage for the 2 or 3 weeks.that we are there.

We have had no problems with wheels but perhaps thats because it a French one designed for their roads!
