I would not pay that for a camping pitch. I can find plenty of 2 bedroom gites for that price.

Really? In summer school holidays? I booked several gites for a biker trip in April (very low season) a few years back and the cheapest I paid was about 30 euros for a single room...and they didn't have pools...or kids clubs...

We're going to Le Pin in August, paying about 43 euros for the first few days and then 33 euros for the rest (after Aug 19). Just came back from a similar type of site in northern France (paid 23 euros with camping cheques) and the extra facilities were superb and worth the extra cash, IMO.

BTW, found this (unintentionally) amusing quote on Le Pin's website:

'Outdoor pool heated by solar energy'

no, really...

We dont have children so dont have the worry of keeping them amused and yes really, our self catering Gite in the Loire valley for the last 2 weeks in August is £250 per week. I have a folder of similar properties all under £300 for most parts of France. My back these days insists on a proper bed rather than the lilo so sadly we have had to call a halt to our camping days.

Carol

Yup - last two weeks in August is also really cheap on campsites... last year we paid about 18E/night for 4* campsite with flumes etc... same site a week earlier would have been 50E+
