i this country wants to run as it does 24/7 we wouldnt be able to cope and as for the rail we just dont have the network and could you a train delivering to a place like mcdonalds?

Quite so - why does everything have to be done 'immediately'. If we don't have the rail network, that's because it was shut down to encourage road transport - we can change it back. The FcDonalds question is irrelevent - you would, of course, have short-distance transport by energy-efficient small trucks.

so a hgv can carry 29ton of goods and a transit type van 1.5ton, which means you would need 19 transits to match what a artic can take, short or long this is not energy efficient, there is so much that cant be carried by small truck or vans its unbeleaveable , the rail was shut down as it didnt make enough money, and if you look at the cost of rail travel now it would cost alot of money to ship it this way, you would also need to build alot of hubs to distrubute all these goods.

there are far to many hgv's on the road now that carry so much waste of time stuff companies send small loads in large lorries just so they can make more money on the return loads. im sorry but i dont think rail is a good alternative and would never work, with or with out the good old days.

Not quite right the main cause of hgv's running unefficiently with small loads is that to save companies warehousing costs a lot of companies work on a Just - In - Time system. This is where they have the goods delivered about 1 hour before they run out.

If rail freight is that economical how come Rolling Stock is carried by road?????
