We are just back from a fantastic park in the Loire.
It was silent every night from 10.30pm apart from one. We had the misfortune to be right next to three men who chatted and laughed until 1.30am.
Thankfully it was only for one night, after that it was back to being silent.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

We went to Camping Fayolan where the 'teenage' disco was on till 1.30am - but it wasn't a problem... just a faint disco beat in the background, not like the site near Venice where the entertainment from the next door site was WAY to loud and went on till midnight.

My kids were 'out' till 11pm most nights playing table tennis, getting crepes or watching the evening entertainmetn -they are 9 and 11, it felt very safe for them.

I think having the disco actually helped as it kept the teenagers in one place, and I certainly never heard any of them returning back to their pitches so I assume they were quite well behaved.

People are complicated. Few of us are always anything, either polite or rowdy. Rowdy people are capable of acts of kindness, quiet well-mannered people can be extraordinarily rude. When you get big groups of people, as on the big campsites their behaviour is amplified, and they often behave differently than they would on their own. I also think behaviour runs in families. Youngsters will do what they see you doing, rather than what you tell them to do.

We all have 'hot buttons' certain things that particularly annoy us, but other people may regard them as no big deal. I visit war sites, especially those from WW1 and have a tremendous respect for those who fought. The most disgusted I have ever been with English speaking people was at the Arc de Triomphe. There was a ceremony of some sort, they were changing the guard at the eternal flame and there was a 2 minute silence with hundreds of people paying their respects. A teenage boy shouted out in the middle of it "Up the IRA." I looked round, expecting his father to slap him, and the whole family burst out laughing.

Now that particularly upset me because it breached many of my principles and view of what is right and wrong, but clearly for that family their values were different.

James
