Also Berriow in those days kids did not have to be strapped in a car seat in the back of the car
We drove to Slovenia when our daughter was 4 she had her bed all made up on the back seat with goodies to eat, books toys etc and it was no problem at all.
Nowadays obviously much safer but the children have to be strapped into car seats which is a bit more restraining I think
DVD, Nintendo Lite, Drawing pads/pencils/colouring stuff, books (if they are readers).
Always drove nights for long stretches, unless in very picturesque areas ... especially the long bashes down to Spain or Italy. Passengers slept! Doen't bother me ... if you need someone to keep alert with you, that may not be an option.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Only posted so that I can get some advice for Beloved Grand-Daughter - I was thinking of putting her on the roof rack but apparently that's not allowed
Hi happybonzo
The year before last we were thinking of doing that with our grandson aged three.
Not his fault though. We were stuck in traffic jams going down to the Dordogne, consequently a journey which should have taken 7 hours, took 13 it was a nightmare. In fact I felt like getting on the roof rack myself
Never again will we risk early August with a young child.
