Thats the route I normally take--Calais-Rouen--all dual carrigeway but just a bit of toll--then N138 le Mans-Tours (some toll) then A10(toll) to Poitiers-then N10(mostly dual) to Bordeaux-then where you want on the SW coast-easy 2 day drive-everything well signposted-if you want fast-go Calais-A26-A1 to Paris-look for signs A10 Bordeaux-Paris is no problem if you are ok with lane changing in heavy, fast traffic-toll for car(I guess) £40 1 way--

Bois Soleil St Georges de Didonne near Royan I think fills your specification!

Pitches are large, sandy and under the pine trees. The aroma is fabulous. Cleaning the sticky pine bits off the awning roof when you get home is a Pain in the A**E! 100 metres from a huge golden sandy beach. We drove in one day from Caen. Site restaurant is excellent and there are loads of others in surrounding villages. Excellent on site shop and takeaway and spotlessly clean blocks.

There you go

Well its not cheap at 31.40 euros a day for a tent but it certainly is a FRENCH GEM! (if alittle on the big side).

Thing I might book it if nothing else gets dug up.

Thanks

Jared

It is a Camping cheque site if you are going out of the main season.

Jarred

Sorry about that! We always go the last two weeks of June so I did indeed use Camping cheques. They are excellent for out of high season as they only cost £9.95 each. In fact when we went to Bois Soleil they were only £8!

Each Camping cheque gets you one night two people car and van including electric on member sites.

You can find out more at www.campingcheque.co.uk. The caravan Club sells them as well. usually sites accept them till the end of June and after 1 September depending on when they close. The vast majority are quality sites. I have never stayed on a bad one and it does not half bring the cost down.

Btw Bois Soleil does not feel as big as it is because the site is actually split into three distinct parts. The main site is where the shop restaurant and facilities are. Immediately across the road is another seperate site which they use in busy periods or quite often there ar tents on there as it is immediately behind the beach. The other section is across the road and consists of static and seasonals mainly. So don't be put off by that.

If you need anything else let me know. I will have a log somewhere of our trip that year if that will assist you.

Best regards

I've been i touch with the Bois Soleil St Georges de Didonne and they have suggested we pitch our tent on one of the more expencive caravan pitches because the tent pitches have steps and are on sand so you can't drive on to them???

nop..........naturist sites are out, the wife wont have it..........can you drive to Gironde in a day?

Jarred,

Forgive the belated reply - my wife was the same until last year when the only decent site we could find was naturist. We are now looking for naturist sites, and she actually said "OK I was wrong" after trying them. (First time in 30 years!)

Our recommendation would be, as always, Camping Du Letty in Benodet, Brittany.  Most of the things you list and much more.  Have a look at our reviews and those of others in campsite search section of this website.  Not too far to drive either.

Regards

Tim
