Well at least they are trying to stop easy access to the site for the crims. I wonder if a couple of security cameras would eliminate the problem completely.

The difficulty for a lot of Municipal campsites, Epernay included, is that they are often just one part of a larger Municipal complex which includes sports  facilities so they are more open than commercial campsites.

We stayed at the Municipal in Epernay a few years ago and it was great, nicely situated to get to a number of Champagne houses, some lovely walks and the site had decent pitches. It was great and I would definitely go back.

The one thing we found was that it seemed to be a stopover site for many going to or coming from further south and we found we were disturbed by other campers (usually British!) packing up loudly at 5 or 6am. Not the sites fault but if you are packing up early do have a little consideration for your fellow campers!

Well this site must have more of a problem with thefts than others as in a previous post they are fencing the site in. Would the people who had things stolen have any comeback on the municipals insurance? I'm sure they must carry insurance.

I very much doubt it. I am sure somewhere in the T&C's there is something saying that they are not responsible for campers property.
