We have just returned from 3 weeks in Holland for the the 3rd year running.  In total we have been to Holland 5 time and never grow bored with it.  We have stayed at place called De Lakens which is in Zandvoort, which is the dutch rivera.  The beaches are amazing and you camp in sand dunes, there is no pool, entertainment... its great.  A must in any site is bikes.  We have also stayed at Koningshof which was a busier campsite and the kids loved this it was great for cycling to beach, it had a pool on site and good play park (my kids are 11 & 5), this year my hubby thought that we should try inland and we went to Flevostrand, I did not like this as the beach was not nice and the water was stagnent.  If you are looking to really get away from it I would recommend going to Texel which is the first island off the north coast of Holland, it was heaven on earth, there is lots of camping all on small farms.  We stayed near Den hagg, and the beach was great and the town lovely.  We stayed on a beef cattle farm.  Most farmers on the island have about 10 - 15 pitches, its not fancy but really peaceful and I am looking forward to going back there again.... remember you bikes

Hi FLICK8 .  Your first post and no one thanked you for it. So I will.

I can only suppose 95% of readers are so fixated on France that they ignore Holland, and ignore you. A pity on both counts. Welcome.

Avoid at all costs CAMPING DE BEREKUIL in Utrecht.  Hubby and I and our friends needed an overnight stop before getting the ferry home from Amsterdam on Sunday.  We drove onto this site and were greeted by a lovely lake surrounded by chalets.  'Hit the jackpot' we thought!  We paid our 25 Euros (for each van with EHU) and were told to park wherever we wanted by the very lovely English speaking warden.  Then OMG! the place seemed to be full of single men apparently staying there while looking for work.  The toilet block was the most disgusting place I have EVER seen and the chemical disposal point made you retch!.  We stowed our waste water tank, aquaroll and steps inside our 'vans for fear of them going missing and hardly slept because we felt unsafe and all this for 25 Euro a night.  We couldn't get away fast enough in the morning.

Another place to avoid is Camping Zeeburg in Amsterdam. Although it is convenient for the centre it is certainly not a campsite for families or anyone over about 21. It was my worst campsite experience I have never felt so ill at ease!
