Thank you, that sounds good.

'Exhausted this last year'   I tried to find previous threads on this subject before I posted this one.

All the best

Thank you for all the replies. It would be good if everyone agreed.

My car  combo (train) capable weight is 4250kg. So although my train weight will be about 3200kg? I will need stickers?  If I need stickers do I have to have three? 110/100/80 ? Motorway/ Dual cariageway/ single road. I will only be doing max 60mph (about 97kpm) on motorways.

Fred.

Yes your outfit would be restricted to the lower towing speed limits. These are 90 kph on motorways & Dual Carriage ways and 80 kph on all other roads (unless a lower speed limit is posted or you are with in a towns boundary signs.

As I said earlier Speed Stickers are NOT required on UK Trailers (Including HGV), but if you feel you must fit them then its the 90 & 80 that you should fit. Remember these Stickers are Illegal in certain other countries.

Here is a reply 'Bejay' got from the French Authorities about Speed Stickers.

It does not matter which country your vehicle is registered, you must comply with the law of the country you are using the vehicle.

Noooooo! Some EU countries require caravans to have their own number plate. Obviously impossible for us do comply with that regulation.

One other point Frederico, hope I am not teaching granny to suck eggs, but do check the rate your are charged on toll motorways. Your combo should go as classe 1 (cheapest), sometimes you will get charged classe 2 (ie for trailers over 2metres high). Argue with them if they charge classe 2, they will soon change this.

For anyone who's French isn't good:

In response to your letter concerning the speed stickers that must be placed on HGV's, heavier vehicles and caravans from the UK, travelling in France (Article R.413-13 of the French highway code), I can give the following answers:

The Vienna Convention of 8 November 1968 deals with international traffic.
The principle is that a vehicle travelling internationally should be in accordance with the rules which apply in their country of registration. In practice we see heavier-weight foreign vehicles travelling in France with their own speed stickers. The heavy-weight French vehicles abroad do not change speed stickers at the border crossing to those which might apply in that country.  In all cases, though, vehicles should stick to the speed limits that apply on the roads where they are travelling.

We hope that answers your question and cordially,

The office of legislation and regulation
Delegation to the security and road traffic
Ministry of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and the Sea
