If you are stopped don't argue with the polizei, it can cost more as a mate found out!
They have a book which lists all the "sins" in many languages which they will show you if they don't speak english! Guess how I know? (Spent 5 years in Germany with the RAF!)
At the start of a town/village there is a white sign stating the name. 50kph starts there-unless it says otherwise, at the end is the same sign with a line through it which is the end of limit.
Give way to the right, although junctions are signed, (stop or give way)-there is a yellow diamond sign with white edges at regular intervals.which shows you are on the priority road.
On the autobahns keep right unless overtaking and use your mirrors as they go very fast on the derestricted bits!
If herman comes up behind you with his indicator on it means "get out of ze vay!"
I enjoyed my time there, good roads nice country.
Other words "Einfahrt=entrance, ausfahrt=exit.Never did find umleitung!!
If there is a no overtaking sign (same as here) it may say "ausgenommen zugmachinen" underneath-which means except tractors!!

numbers are pretty straightforward
1-10 = ein, zwei, drei, vier, funf, sechs, seiben, acht, neun, zehn
11-20 = elf, zwolf, dreizehn, vierzehn and so on until zwanzig
the decades after that dreizig, vierzig, funfzig and so on
ein und zwanzig = 21
funf und vierzig = 45

Ein grosses bier-a big beer, ein kleine bier -a small bier!
Ein bratwurst mit frites und mayo bitte!= sausage and chips-very nice snack (or currywurst which has curry sauce!)
You get these from a schnell imbiss (fast food shop) which are very common in Germany.All cooked to order and fresh!!!
Rotwein-red wine, weisswein -white wine(more common in Germany!).
Schnapps-lots of different types -make you fall over and your head hurt!!!
Kaffe mit milch is white coffee! Cream is sahne which is the squirty type.
Fleisch= meat, porc is pork, rinder is beef, kalb is veal. Hanchen is chicken. Pferde is horse-yes you can get it!
Fisch =what it says!
Kartoffeln = potatoes.
German meals are nice, portions large, a lot of pork is eaten.
Kaffe und kuchen is coffee and cakes, very popular in Germany! Especially on Sundays. The cakes are very very nice and normally served in large portions and you can have extra cream !!!
You go into the shop order your coffees, choose your cakes,which are on display in a cool counter. When you pay they give you a ticket, take a seat and the waitress brings them!! mmmm!!!
Bringing back memories of a good time!
