This is of course the final weekend of the school holidays.
We have had incredibly excellent treatment from Eurotunnel, even with the dogs! The only time we ever arrived on time for our channel crossings, be that ferry or train, was the first time. Since the first occasion we have always landed up there early! And we have crossed early. 10 out of 10 VG!
Niaive to believe this final weekend will be relaxed due to the school holidays and the explosives check.
------------- Some days are diamonds.......
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Another thumbs up for the tunnel. We have never had a problem and love the fast trip. We wouldnt go back to the ferries although some people find the longer crossing a nice break after a long drive and use it to relax before more driving in France. We dont need the break as we are only going as far as the Ibis Tunnel both into France and on our return before continuing our journey the following day.
We travelled along the M20 today from Hythe to Ashford and it was heaving with caravans, motor homes, cars with roof boxes etc. this really is one of the busiest weeks of the year.
So know its not always possible to predict the time you will arrive at the tunnel, but if you are late or early at this time of year, you must be prepared for a wait
We've just returned having used Eurotunnel again this year. The outward journey was delayed because there had been a train breakdown earlier in the day, but we were on a train within an hour of our booked time. Although we had arrived 2 hours before our train in the hope of getting an earlier one so had a long lunch break at Folkestone.
The return journey we arrived 50 mins before our train and were away on time. Stayed in Folkestone over night and the travel news in the morning was that there were delays due to an electrical fault.
On both runs they appeared to be fitting as many vehicles on as possible.
Given that previous years have all been really easy and we have been offered alternative trains I'm starting to wonder if Eurotunnel's fleet is getting old and starting to have reliability issues?
We travelled out on 31st Aug, tea time, no problems then. Came back yesterday, booked on 9.20am, got on 8.50 still no problems. In the old days we used to stay at Ashford TL after our 6hr drive down, ready for an early crossing. And we have always stayed on a site near Calais the night before coming home, to avoid being delayed, though we have turned up a day early and travelled at no extra cost other than an admin fee.
