We have done 2 RV trips in the USA recently - we toured the West Coast and also this year we did Vegas, Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Lake Powell, Zion National Park and New York - phew!! We always use a company called motorhomebookers.com who are fantastic. They are an agent and will give you rates for all the suppliers but we have a preference for a company called Road Bear. The RV's are always new and spotless and for a family holiday, I can't recommend it enough. I have to disagree with a previous poster as we thought Yosemite was spectacular - we stayed in the park. Also, we tend to go in the Easter holidays as the prices are cheaper and the weather good and crowds low. I used Trailfinders this year as they had an offer on the flights, including internal flights and hotel for the first few nights; we paid £500 each. Previously we booked Virgin flights but had the worst flight back from LA so were put off. We flew Delta this year who were (surprisingly) fantastic.
If you want any advice or information at all, just ask. I used to be a travel agent so the fun bit for me was researching everything myself and booking all our campsites etc. The kids still talk about it and no doubt we will go again - I fancy Boston, White Mountain and Arcadia National Park and other stops on the East Coast.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Sorry, you've got me on one of my favourite subjects. If you ever try the eastern USA the Blue Ridge Parkway NP is the most beautiful place I have ever visited, and just fabulous to camp in.
Our coach driver in Canada a couple of years ago said that RV stands for road virus - there were thousands of them in the Rockies.
We did a 2 week trip round British Columbia years ago (before kids) - we sometimes drove for hours without seeing another car, never mind an RV
One of our best holidays ever - we had a huge 6-berth RV (just the 2 of us), saw bears, moose, elk etc, stunning glaciers and mountains - amazing!
Not sure if I'd recommend an RV holiday for kids, however. Ideally, you'd want to be driving round and is there anything worse than kids moaning on a long trip?

I am jealous of your BC trip, we spent a few days in Vancouver in 2008 and I just loved that part of the world.
In fact, we had such a good holiday, that's where I proposed to my wife, on Sunset beach, at sunset, with a busker playing the saxophone behind us - tacky, huh?
We loved Vancouver at the time (1998) but I've heard that it's gone badly downhill since - lots of gangs and crime etc. Hopefully, that was just an exaggeration because that's the only place in the world I would consider emigrating too.

no, but I have booked a villa for next year near all the main areas to visit.IHaving been 7 times in 14 years we knew where this villa was. 4 bedrooms, south facing private pool for £375 per week first 2 weeks in june. I found it on holidaylettings web but the owner has a web page www.exclusivelyyourvilla.com, villas are so cheap in florida now. just shop around for cheapest flights and car hire.
Still hoping for a cheap hol to france in august though hence on this site.
Er, the OP was asking about RV and camping holidays -NOT- Villas!
Spent eleven years in our 37ft Dolphin m/h travelling US, Canada, Mexico and will never forget the experience. For a 2 or 3 week holiday in rented m/h however you need to be careful about the company you choose.Stay away from big nationals with locations everywhere. Google mh USA and you will find many links to smaller reputable co's. Try contacting 'Good Sam' organisation by Google and explain what you would like - they are US equivalent CClub in UK and will give good advice - you get free membership when you book m/h's bytw. Stay out of Mexico, Mid West, East Coast States, Great Lakes areas many parts of New Mexico. Dont go to places like Arizona, Utah, or SW states in July or August (too hot) Canada can be one big forest road so plan route carefully! There are many fantastic places in that huge country nevertheless especially National Park areas. California offers a wealth of things to do and see each day for the whole family - I recommend the campground overlooking Pacific at Malibu - close enough to LA, San Francisco and San Diego for day trips from your m/h base and to Disneyworld, Film Studios etc. Visit Hollywood. San Diego zoo - best in the world - and even a shopping expedition to Tijuano just across border from San Diego in Baha Mexico. Great campground in Chula Vista south of San Diego btw. My favourite place - Alaska.
