Every time that a pan-European currency has been tried in the past it has gone belly up.
When was that then? Name 2 pan-European currencies that have gone belly up since ... hmmm.. say 1066.

Try the mid 19th centuary: the proposed LMU as a gold standard based currency and the Scandinavians also had a crack at it in the 1870s. There have been others which surprised me
Don't usually bring enough back to worry about it. Haven't been across since 2008. Still got about €30 left from then, so will have lost out in real terms, I suppose.
Ummm .... the pound is only TECHNICALLY down against the euro over the past year: from 1.462 to 1.450
That's so miniscule as to be virtually the same as it was a year ago.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

Not sure where you got those figures from, but I would be extremely happy to have that exchange rate of 1.45.
This day last year it was 1.1526 as against 1.1485 today, so very little change. However prices in many of the Euro zones have increased significantly making the exchange rate seem a lot worse than it actually is.
Edit: the rates above are bank rates and not tourist rates which will be slightly less.

I had 545 left over from hols in June and was thinking the same - keep or cash in. I went to the PO and was offered £420!! Yeah right, as with the other comments, if the Euro goes down then we are all deep trouble and what is a few quid going to do. Will just have to nip over to france sooner rather than later and stock up on some of their scrummy wine!
