But I've just been reading the reviews of Domaine du Massereau - they're not universally glowing are they ?

No, seeing as it is a 5 star site, i think it is probably one of those sites that can be completely different out of season?

I'd go back even though there were some small issues - I suppose Nirvana is hard to find.  There's some info re: dogs and beaches at La Grande Motte here.

I'm surprised just how poor some of the reviews are - but when we visited it was outside peak season, and we thought it a nice site.  I'm not sure I would pay the '5 star' prices, but when it took an ACSI card it was certainly value for money. 

I would have said that the time you're on site makes a difference, but one very poor review is from September............ perhaps it's just a victim of it's own success, but there is no excuse at all for dirty sanitary blocks, and it's one thing which would put me right off!

You'll get good and bad reviews of any site that is a bit different. DdM's camping is within an old wood and hence the 'rustic' nature of the camping and the tree root here and there. It is not a manicured site with regimental order so if you are after a CC style site this is not for you.

We have been peak season and it is kept spotless. The main appeal is the pool, the ability to get a sun lounger and (contrary to some reviews) the space on the pitches.

I've yet to find a perfect site but it is clear that what suits one person doesn't suit the next. It is also noticeable that some reviewers are a bit schizophrenic in their reviews, giving different sites a high and low score even though they experienced problems with the toilet blocks at both sites.
