Emglish supermarket meat better than the French stuff, never!! Way better quality in France and much more choice.
I have to agree with that...... and not just the meat!
We just love shopping in French supermarkets! it's part of the whole experience and the children love looking at the different foods - and sweets!! Worth the bit extra for the enjoyment!!
We've just returned from la croix du vieux pont and used the intermarche in vic sur aisne. I found it very reasonably priced and echo the comments about the meat quality. Turkey (dinde) steaks, and I think they were free range were about 2.50 for a twin pack, beautiful sirloin steak (faux filet) for about 3.50, best steak ive had in a long time (and that was pre packed) the fresh burgers were about 2.20 for three. We we highly surprised by the meat quality.
6 x 1.5 litre bottles of evian were about 3.60, a crate of 30 bottles of Kronenbourg was 11 euros and we found plenty of very nice red wine at 2.25 a bottle!!!! Hardly spent anything all week!

I agree that the meat quality is much better in France. I also think the fruit and veg generally is too. I don't know any supermarket in the UK that mists their fruit and veg with cool water to keep it fresh?? Also produce seems to be locally sourced.
I never buy supermarket meat at home so could not comment if it is worse of better than in France.
We are lucky enough to have fantastic local butchers in our area that sell local rare breeds free range meat and can honestly say I have never eaten any meat in
France that can come anywhere close to it.
You can get carried away in the French Hypermarkets, specially the cheese and the cold meats/sausage sections. Great ranges and prices lower than UK. I always bring back too much fromage, which I am forced to eat before the fridge gets ponged out !!
Canvaslove we are off to La Croix in 3½ weeks and have been reading all the information on here and tripadvisor and they recommend using the supermarket in Soisson as it is cheaper and more variety - can you tell me did you visit the supermaket in Soisson and is it worth the extra travel.
We will obviously be going into Soisson but don't want to hurry there on the Monday to shop if we can just pop into the village.
Sorry, we never got chance to go to soissons but our neighbours tried looking for it and couldn't find it.
We never failed to find what we needed / wanted in the intermarche at Vic sur aisne and like I say, it's only a five minute walk from the site...
Have a good time..
