im going in two weeks in a 9 yr old megane which says 105000 on the clock, but really has around 20 - 40K extra (i bought it with FSH, later found to be false), everything added up till i checked the old MOTs online, it went from 111000 one year to 83000 the following year... That was nearly a year and 18000 miles ago.
I went to solicitor, police, etc etc, no leg to stand on as previous owner denied knowledge (so law on his side!?!), Got the timing belt changed as soon as i found out, and service it myself regularly, it hasnt cost me a single penny in terms of faults, and also doesnt burn any oil etc (apart from now needing a coil spring due to unexpected speed bump encounter at 30mph.
I just took breakdown cover with direct line for £59 for full year cover, only cos if i didnt, and i broke down, I would literally not hear the end of it from OH till 2020... Im now 99% sure i wont breakdown, without cover id spen the whole time thinking, every murmur, squeak, shudder WTF was that!
I looked first at some comparison sites, and there were some cheaper ones coming up, (i dont think i can name them on here) but upon reading the reviews they were to be avoided... If you already have UK cover, you can get short term cover from the R at c, for me it was around £37, but i had no cover at all to start so it was cheaper for me to go with direct line...
As long as you take it easy, considering the extra work the engine has to do, and probably extra cooling req'd due to hotter weather :) should be ok...
bon voyage!
