I think the true cost comparison is what would two weeks camping holiday in Cornwall cost , and what would two weeks camping in france cost.

We ignore food costs as we spend about the same in France as UK. We have to eat. But cheaper camp sites, free parking and cheaper diesel in france easily offsets a cheap ferry fare and insurance. That just leaves mileage distance - if you go a long way south you'll spend more. If you stick to the Channel coast you won't.

We gave up camping / caravanning holidays in UK long ago.

If you're driving from Calais don't under estimate the length of the drive to Brittany. It's a fairly long haul. It's a lovely area but weather wise will probably be fairly similar to Cornwall.

Have fun looking at sites. My favourite hobby, apart from actually camping.
