I've got something similar but without the flat belly. If you don't want to do the budgie smugglers, then I think this is the next best option allowed..

OH could get away with it but doubt he would want to. Think we'll just wait and see if anyone objects to what he's wearing. Like another poster he has more hair on rest of body than under his trunks. ( don't most blokes?)

If you need new swimming trunks get them before you go. French sizes appear to be different. I am normally an XL (or L on a good day). In France I had to buy XXL. If you find  they are the wrong size after you have taken them away some places will not let you exchange them or give you your money back.

This is a bone of contention with my teenage son one site we've been to for the past two years Des Grottes at Niaux in the Ariege its a 'non' for shorts (great swimming area though) but at Les Vignes in St Augustin near Royan it's 'bon' for shorts. Personally i don't see where Hygiene is a problem after all we see people on site's spend most of the day in and out of swimming areas wearing swimwear and as for the hair reason do most people not have hair on their heads so why are swim hats not obligatory i think its just an obsession of the French to just pose around in tight fitting bum huggers and remain stuck in the 70's!!!

I think it is because the French haven`t moved on from the 90`s !!!!

Seriously I know why some French sites request them, but can`t see their logic. Having said that it is simple IMHO in that if the sites request they be worn and your not happy looking slightly gay then book another site that allows shorts as we do.

This swimming attire would possibly be suitable for those French sites that like things to be hygienic....nowhere for any dirt/sand etc to collect.....well possibly not in the trunks:

Is that you Griff?  Nice bum!

Swimming shorts allowed at Les Ecureuils at St Hilaire de Riez...think you could get in the pool fully clothed there and no-one would bat an eyelid...have to say though, I nearly brought back my croissant one day at the sight of a very large bloke (belly wise) in very small speedos...it's not nice is it?  My belly isn't the smallest, but I do cover it up with a proper cossie.

lol- loving the pictures on this topic! Beware if you go to Italy, we have been to quite a few sitesthat require speedos and also swimming caps - now that does make a good picture!
