Think we are going to go for Camping La Cote in Messanges south of Biscarosse. Really pleased to see how many people like the Atlantic coast down in Gironde/Landes area - could easily be put off by reports of miles and miles of pine forests & little else. But for us it's perfect, saving hills & scenery for when kids are old enough to appreciate it - for now will stick with forest cycling & beaches...perfect!

Largest sand dune in Europe is the Dune du Pyla, near Pyla sur Mer (surprise surprise) and Arcachon. Quite a sight to see. It is huge.

I found the area round the 'Pyla'and the basin very busy compared to the area round Moutchic and Lacanau. Le Porge is a lovely beach.

What you cannot put in a picture is the fragrant air......the pine forest on a hot day is better than any homeopathic remedy, it is bliss.

le Tedey is the only place I can actually take in the sun and stay cool from the breeze off the water.

The cycling is so leisurely and flat that it is great to see families out together have a wonderful time.
Children can find their cycling confidence in this area..at least if you fall off the sand is a kind landing area.

Have a wonderful time, if you are camping you can go where you want. I cannot imagine the restriction of being stuck in one place for two weeks...nightmare.
Mind you we did pitch 7 times this year but we packed a lot in an so loads.

We have been 'doing' France for 17yrs and still do not tire of the new discoveries and adventures waiting for us.

Thanks for your comments - I've had a look at Camping Le Tedey and it looks great.  Reckon we will definately add this to our list.  I agree to a certain extent with you about being parked up in the same place for 2 weeks, but saying that, last year, we drove down the The Algarve, stopping overnight in France & Spain on the way down and on the way back, although we had a fantastic time, my husband drives a lorry for a living so I felt this was a bit of a busmans holiday for him.  Next time, I think we will have slightly less stops and not try and visit 3 countries in 2 weeks! lol

BobCat10 I know exactly what you mean about the tempting smell of the pine forests on a hot day, we always comment on it too. Have to say that for us, cycling, surfing and beaches are the essential ingredients of our holiday.

We have just come back from this area and had a fantastic time. We spent nearly a week at Camping Le Vivier in Biscarrosse plage at that was perfect for us as we wanted to be close to the ocean for bodyboarding. We really liked the area, great for an active holiday (cycling, running, watersports). Whilst the area is not stunningly beautiful and we found it very relaxing. Much preferred it to the Vendee where we stopped for a couple of nights on the way down.

We will definitely be back.
