We downloaded the Alan Rogers App for our iphones this year (free) and it was the best App we have ever downloaded. We used the App to tour France and Italy and it was perfect (apart from one site in Piedmont where the directions were poor). Every site we visited was a gem as well. You don't need data roaming on as it takes its feed from the mobile signal.
Why do I get the feeling that soon, the app won't be free and the quality of information coming out of Alan Rodgers won't be as good as it is now? Bigger isn't always better. Far from it.
