Never had any problem except some feral cats at an English camp site. But then we tend to empty our bin each night and don't give animals any reason to come sniffing around.
I would guess that if there is a problem with pre-pitched tents then it would be due to poor hygiene.

Camping Les Gorges du Loup
we've used ready erected tents for our last 3 holidays and only thing we'd had/seen is cats being able to unzip the tent door in an opposite tent and a hedgehog came in our tent one night because I wasn't able to get to the zip right to the ground (it was the night that we'd heard about the death at Castell Montgri so were worried until we saw what it was)

Had monkeys in a hotel bedroom in India - rifling through our rucksacks to get biscuits - fierce snarling response when we politely asked them to go away - but our fault for leaving wire mesh window screens open. All part of life's rich travel experience, and not the worst thing that's ever happened
