Thanks for the quick reply,  but looking at the prices on the link page, i don't think i'll bother.  Those prices are extortinate !! , a bike rack the same price as a weeks camping, there's something wrong there.  I can see from the pictures that they are very well made and have all they saftey certs you could need, but you can't tell me that there isn't an equally well made and safety concious rack available for quite a lot less money.

I have always thought and known that high price doesn't equate to quality, and this is a prime example of a product trying to do just that.  The saying " a fool and his/her money are soon parted" comes to mind.

On the other hand .... 'you get what you pay for' ... is frequently right.
Having had a succession of inexpensive bike carriers that either damaged the car or the bikes, the extra cost of the MaxxRaxx has left me trouble free for three years.

It is possible that the very expensive bike racks could be over engineered & also some are designed to carry heavy electric bikes which are getting popular now. Ubler can be compared with the equally expensive top of range Thule models & also Westfalia, They are very easy to use & bikes come off & on very easily. However the mid range racks will do the job & you should be able to find a suitable 4 bike ride on type for £200 or less.

I use a Dutch Spinder 2 bike towbar rack I got off ebay secondhand for £50 & there are often used racks on ebay so worth a look.

I appreciate OP you are on the path of a towbar but have you thought of putting them on the roof instead much cheaper much safer and a darn site easier to get in the boot of car. granter you have to lift them on roof
Its likely your roof load weight will be much the same as your allowable towbar weight a decent roof pack and 4 carries can be had on ebay for around 150.00 200

'Much safer' ??? Not sure how you arrive at that conclusion .... increases fuel consumption due to air drag, can't get under low barriers for motor way toll selection fast lane.

We have a Thule tow bar mounted bike rack that takes 3 bikes and have used it on a two week trip around France without any problems. It also has a tilt mechanism to, in theory, allow you to open the boot without having to remove the bikes. Think it was around £100.

Thule and Uebler are the best. I prefer the Uebler x31 nano, because it won some tests in the german automotive industry.

We use roof bars with halfords advanced bike racks. These are rebadged thule bike racks but a lot cheaper.Get them off ebay for peanuts.

Unless your kids have lightweight bikes i think you should weigh them before buying a towbar rack.
A lot of cheap kids bikes are heavier than decent adult bikes.

Go over the nose weight and it may cost you a lot more than and extra fuel costs of a roof setup if pulled by the police.
