That's interesting Cat. Did think of a run down to Biarritz and a cheap o/n when we were on the Atlantic coast in 2012, but never got round to it. The weather apparently can be mixed but it has that 007 old school pull to it, as does Monte Carlo.

The best pizza we've ever had, anywhere, including Rome, was in a little alleyway gaff off the Prince's Palace at the top of MC years ago

No fish on it though

That Bordeaux underground car park reminds me last year we finally found it - just about to go in when I caught sight of the windscreen sticker inside saying Yeti plus roofbox = 2.5 m. Could have been nasty.

We have to take it, and onsite can only unload. Unless I take a ladder, it stays on.

Mike, we are planning to be in France for about 3 weeks, but apart from 5 - 7 days in La Tranche sur Mer (we are meeting family there) we have not really decided!

We will be going the last week of May and will probably see what the weather is doing. I am quite interested to see a bit of Normandy/Brittany, but mainly because I went there as a child. As you say, having the T4 does make things easier Also this is the first time it will just be me and my Husband - no unruly teenagers to pander to!

Oh, those unruly teenagers, awful, just awful.

I'm kidding. Once again our youngest will join us, and she's 27!!

Do we ever get shut of them?

2012 in the Vendee we were near La Tranche, at Avrille. Write up here.

I get daily emails for Beynac for the weather, and they're up to 22c this week. We're off back because we didn't do everything, but thinking of Annecy for 2015.

Write up last year
here.

Having the T4 does mean you can chase the weather. Have a fab time.

We are due for a trip to Aquitaine so this may be out destination for 2015.

I can recommend a site in St Jorioz which is a short distance from Annecy. the site is called Le Solitaire. The village is a short walk from the site, the site has access to the lake, and affords wonderful views accross the lake.  Like many of the campsites they are very busy and much more crowded than we are used to, but it is a prime destination.   Annecy is beautiful but is also a good base to explore the Alps from. We found an interesting route via Duingt, Albertville to Chamonix. We found a lovely campitye on tis road but thename escapes me, it was a 'ferme' though.  The acsent to the Aguile du midi is a must. la Clusaz on market day is also worthwhile (nice campsite there too).

The field is used as an overflow, so be careful what you wish for.

I forgot to mention that it is just off the cycle piste which is a bonus.

The faciulities on the site are excellent, very clean. There is a Casino in the village, and a lovely patisserie.

We originally had hoped  to get on the site nearer Annecy, so glad couldn't get on, it was packed all the time..there was queue outside the entrance every night

We were 4 pitches from the end on the right in August last year.

What spoilt it for the first few nights was the biggest two Campers I have ever seen parked next to each other on that overspill field (next to the last pitch on the right). They looked like Gypsy's to me. Really big flashy vehicles but he occupants looked really common and they shouted across to each other and seemed to drink alot...we've all seen these types and avoid pitching ner them. We have been very, very lucky camping in France, we usually go a little off the beaten track and meet like minded folk.

Great campsite though, we went for walk every night, across the field and along the waters edge.

It'll be a while before we go back, but we would certainly concider 'Le Solitaire' if Annecy was the destination.

Like you so didn't.

These weren't the average oversized Hymer, they were those that expanded at the sides. And it was so twee they pitched facing each other with the canopies touching I swear they never moved or went anywhere apart from from when they left the site.

Mike if you have bought one you'll have to buy your wife a nice velour tracksuit in pink with Juicy Couture accross the back side.

Depending on when you go of course, there are some lovely classical concerts throughout the summer in various venues locally...this was why we went there last year.

I'm hoping that the classical season in Aveyron doesn't disappoint but I am confident it won't. The Alps and SW France have a cultural inheritance in superb choral singing.

At last, I've managed to contact the campsite by telephone. I emailed earlier in the year and got an immediate response, aso I think this must have been pre-season to the Mairie. I had to change the dates, but 3 emails and 2 attempts by telephone failed...thankfully my French is OK, otherwise I would have been stuck.

I have also booked a table on the Saturday night at Le Vieux Pont (Michelin star). The location looks very tranquil so I am hoping it is not so remote that we have very narrow roads out to  get anywhere. I can envisage the ned to stock up at LeClerc in Rodez on the way there. I note there is a Decathlon on the outskirts of Rodez too, this is always useful.

I can now concentrate on establishing when the markets are, and the places of interest places to visit, like the Bastides in the locality, not forgetting the Millau bridge, Cahors etc.

Roberto seems to be taking an interest this time, so that has to be a positive sign. Robert usually asks me the night before "where are we going then", bless him, as long as he gets his Savigny-les-Beaune  'fix' on the way down he'll be happy
