Hi,
On return from our holiday I thought I would let you know how things are this year at Bois Soleil.
unfortunately I am going to have to eat my words and say the campsite toilets on 'The Mer' side of the park were pretty bad.
They had a spate of vandalism going on as we arrived with mirrors being scratched, door locks being damaged and some horrible blighter smearing poo all over one of the toilet walls.
This resulted in them closing down the more modern shower blocks and toilets from 11pm until 8.30am each morning. The resulting overuse of the remaining toilets was pretty bad. It was a shame that it couldn't have been dealt with better as the vandal did keep scratching his name into the mirrors and perhaps they could of checked the registration sheets against the name used.
Such a shame, we decide to check out some other campsites whilst there and was delightfully surprised to find large modern and clean facilities on some other sites for cheaper rates.
When were you there as we never saw any of that in May/June. There was a problem with the toilets behind reception which had been sorted out whilst we were there.

Shame how one idiot can spoil it for everyone else, and the campsite too. That is why we prefer not to book, and keep our options open. Bois Soleil is a good site, but I bet they won't see you again!!
"Love this area, but there is a lack of quality sites,so it's back to vendee next year."
Another site worth looking at in this area is Clairefontaine (not in UKCS database as far as I can see). It is on the other side of Royan from St George De Didonne, about 3km to the West of Royan town centre, 500m from a nice beach and located in a small village/suberb of Royan called Pontaillac. The only drawback that we found was that some of the pitches could be quite small.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
