Le Pommier near the Ardeche has amazing slides,it is possible to do a loop the loop in a water slide.Lots of Dutch there.

In the Netherlands Duinrell has amazing slides and is inside and open all year.

Thank you all for your replies.

We do have quite a spectrum of ages to amuse and all of them love swimming/water so thats why I asked about water park.

For the last couple of years we have considered going abroad but haven't quite plucked up the courage. I think this may well be the last time our eldest comes on holiday with us so I'd really like to go abroad this year. For some reason though I just get so intimidated by it all - stupid really as I am usually very organised but I just can't seem to figure this out.

Any advice or input would be really appreciated. Perhaps some kind person can point me in the right direction in terms of what to book first etc.

Hi,
What are the ages you have to accommodate?
We have found a campsite that despite appearances might suit you. It is Camping Penboch in Southern Brittany, it does not seem to be very well known on here.
It has had no organised entertainment for kids, however it is full of teenagers who do not seem to have any problem amusing themselves. Our daughter is 16yrs and can't wait to go back for the third time next summer.   They mostly go to the beach at night with guitars etc. but have to be back by 11pm as the gate to the beach is locked. The site is very quiet at night.
There are water slides at the outdoor pool, although not big, seem to cater for all ages.
It is not a cheap site with regard to pitch fees and the pitches are not huge, but if you were to decide that it might be for you, I could recommend some pitches that you could request when booking.
There was talk before we left this summer that they were going to extend the bar area (would be a good idea as it is not very exciting) and were going to put on some low key entertainment. I do not know how accurate that information is though.
I had your dilemma several ago, my OH persuaded me to go to France and have never looked back. I would decide on dates, then check out prices for the various ferry routes to see what suits your budget, decide how far you think is reasonable to drive without spoiling your holiday before it starts, then look at campsites in that range.
