I'm going to France end of March and my caravan will be there for at least a year, possibly longer while I go over there three or four times a year.
I have two of the new lightweight gas cylinders and one of them is empty.
I can't replace it with a full one and am told that it's because of the recent recall problems.
They won't even accept my empty cylinder in exchange for a full old type cylinder.
I am therefore faced with having to pay a deposit (again) to obtain a full old type cylinder.
I think it's a disgraceful rip-off and bad service on the part of Calor.
I will probably be using more gas due to low amp power supplies, so it will be used for water heating and possibly space heating.
Do I switch to Camping Gas or any suggestions if I run out while in France?
Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions.

I just replaced a recall cylinder no problems

When we went for 2 months with our Motorhome we bought an adapter for a French bottle. No need. Went to Carrefour and bought a 10kg lightweight and it came with adapter. My husband says it is really easy to change over as it just clips on, no spanners. There is even a window so you can see how much gas is left. It works brilliant for us

1. Re the OP - as you leaving van in France for at least a year would it not make sense to change to easily obtainable French gas bottles?

2. Re the Calor Lite saga - in a way Calor had little choice but to recall all bottles where there was thought to be a safety issue despite the fact that there would then obviously be a shortage of replacement bottles!
We had 2 suspect bottles at the time ... None of our local outlets had replacements in stock so we were put on 3 different waiting lists! We managed to replace them free elsewhere but by end of Jan we had 2 phone calls that free replacements were now available. All dealers here complied with Calor's instructions as best as they could.

3. We still happy with Calor Lites as we like to minimise our payload. Also as one bottle lasts us up one year (as we normally on EHU sites) the swap price of about £22 not really a consideration - certainly not worth expense of getting Gaslow or similar fitted to van.

I was told by the Guy on the Calor stand at the NEC show in February that they had just had a v large delivery of new lite bottles, so these should be making their way out to dealers. I was dubious about getting a lite, as I was changing from 4.5 butane I had in the Pennine. But at the dealer I went to, (also my storage site) they only had a lite, all the old bottles of that size had sold. By the time I need to swap, this will all (hopefully) be over. Also I have a Calor depot near me so often tend to do my swap/refills there.
