After all, it was the Brits and the Aussies who re-educated the french into how to make wine properly!
Bordeaux was a very british affair .... and, of course, port was dominated by the brits for years.
How boring and imperical
Boring?
'Twas a light hearted rejoinder to the statement that brits must know nothing about wine quality!
Maybe you didn't 'get it'?

Ref Brits and our sophisticated appreciation of fine wines:
- we returned from France last month with some French wine but also some Rioja from Lidls - same one that we buy here.
Us pensioners sure know how to live.
------------- The older I get the better I used to be.
I had a pleasant couple of weeks in the Loire Valley in April. Went to Aldi in Saumur and followed an elderly French couple in the wine section. They bought red in 3 litre boxes and I chose the same ones as they did to take back with me. I have been drinking wine for over 40 years and cannot fault the stuff I brought back. It was cheap as chips and they seemed to know what they were choosing. I will use the same tactic again in June, but I will buy a lot more.
I was given a bottle of red that came from Spain I believe which was very nice. On the label, it says 'Cillar D Silos, Ribera Del Duero, Tempranillo'.
I intend having a look around for it when we're in France in a few months time. Has anyone bought this in France before? We tend to pop just over the border to La Jonquera to get the Mrs her voddie, so will be looking there too.
