About 2,000 migrants tried to storm through Eurotunnel's French terminal last night, according to the company.

The migrants tried to break through the terminal's security fence, causing some services to be cancelled or delayed.

A Eurotunnel spokesman said: "It was the freight terminal and there was some damage to our fences - which we'll have to repair - as they tried to board shuttles.

"Fortunately, there wasn't any damage to shuttles. Unfortunately, a number of people were injured."

Video has emerged, which Sky News understands was filmed late on Monday, showing dozens of people walking along the tracks.

Migrants disrupting the terminal in Coquelles, not far from Calais, has become a regular occurrence.

Some 5,000 people, mostly from Africa and the Middle East, have set up camp around the area. From there, they often try to board trains, lorries or ferries to the UK.

In recent weeks, they have tried to take advantage of disruptions caused by industrial action by French port workers.

The situation has prompted Eurotunnel to bolster security on both sides of the Channel, a cost it wants the UK and French governments to pay for.

Police brought back Operation Stack in the early hours of Tuesday - after it was stood down on Sunday.

It caused the M20 in Kent to again become a giant lorry park while they wait to cross the Channel.

The Eurotunnel spokesman said the migrant activity was becoming "an almost nightly occurrence".

"This is an issue that is a really for the Government to sort out," he said.

"We need them to stop the migrant flow from Calais but it appears to be too much for them to handle."

The company on Tuesday advised anyone planning a day-trip to France via its passenger service to postpone their travel because of long delays.

Tks oxter - comprehensive summary!

Guess a day-trip is now at least a week.

We came back on the tunnel yesterday morning with no trouble at all. Originally we were booked on the 7.30pm but had made such good time we changed our booking to 1.40. However we arrived at 10 am and were offered a 10.40 crossing. Very very quiet indeed. I did see a few groups of what looked like migrants beyond all the fences. We had decided to avoid weekends after eurotunne was so busy last year on the Sunday we returned which seems to have paid off. Hope others find it better than the press are suggesting.

Another 1500 stormed the terminal last night.
Seems they all want to meet Thetesa May. 😀

I see on the news it's now known as the 'Calais Crisis'. We're due to go to France in early September, haven't booked yet so I think we'll go via Newhaven-Dieppe . It's more money but we'll use a bit less diesel and not use the Dartford crossing.

We often use Newhaven/Dieppe as it's a convenient crossing for us.

I've just tried to book for early September and there seems to be very restricted space left - certainly none on our favoured 9.00am/10.00am departure.

Never had this problem before so I'm assuming this is a result of the ongoing situation at Dover/Calais. Bah!!!!

We did this in May and July - Harwich to the Hook - £147 for car and caravan via the caravan club. The only thing is, it's a 6.5 hour crossing and there are only two ferries a day. I wish Stena would bring back the high speed ferries they had in the 1990s.

Made the channel tunnel Tuesday late morning, about 30 mins delay , operation stack was in place so aimed for Canterbury and swung in on the back roads on the a2, a four hour journey took 5 1/2 hours. Here now In the dordogne for a few days lovely weather.
Good look with crossings and happy holidays.
