Some great replies here. Must have been all over France in last ten years from North to South.
As stated we are all different, but our favourite places are the Dordogne, Lake Annecy and Cote Azur.

Hi shropshiretan,
You don't say what outfit you have but as you like aires and moved a lot last year would I be correct that you have a motorhome?
As you say you like lakes and scenery I suggest that if you are considering Annecy then look at Lac de Chalain in the Jura, Lac de le Liez near Langres ( think there is a municipal site or Aire right in Langres which is a lovely town) and Lac d'Orient near Troyes. All of which are possible stops either on the way down to Annecy or on the return journey. Although we stayed at the Kawan site at Lac d'Orient I believe there is also an Aire right opposite the lake as well. The lake also has a cycle path which goes around it and a lake beach. Another vote for Annecy. Our dog loved swimming in the lake and the cycling was good for flat cycling. I will look up the campsite we stayed on as it was a walk to a supermarket, had a tiny lake access/bach where the dog was allwed and it was about 6k cycle to Annecy with cycle track all the way. We also love ile de Re for flat cycling but didn't have our dog when we went. From memory it says no dogs on the beach but we saw dogs there, particularly in the morning and evening. The Tarn was also good for the dog but not for cycling.

Camping D'Aloua was where we stayed - and very reasonably priced. Toilets etc basic but decent sized pitches and as i said good for dogs. There is another site a tiny bit nearer Annecy where we could not get in but as it turns out, dogs are not allowed to swim from the site beach so we were better off at Aloua.

What's the site where dogs were not allowed to swim, please ?

I cannot remember the name but it is the next site along the lake from L'Aloua going towards Annecy. Dogs were allowed on site but not to swim from the lake beach. It looked a lovely lttle site - we walked into it one evening John st to check it out.

Not sure if its been mentioned, but the area around Mont St Michel is beautiful :)
