We looked into the tag but decided not to bother. We've got paying by card down to an art now. I've got a Halifax Clarity card for paying tolls so get the benefit of not paying for a month as well. Can't really see the need for a tag, but it's horses for courses like everything else. We all think our way is best.

I agree ... but after trying both ... not sure you are in a 'good place' to argue the point if you haven't tried the alternative.
The toll charges are not charged till the following month, so it also benefits from not paying for a month.

Im not arguing the point, just saying we decided there wouldn't be much advantage to us. I pay my credit card in full every month so I can't see the advantage of the tag apart from saving us a few seconds.

Got our tag (Sanef) and all set, but we are over 2M with the roofbox. Hope all goes well.

First year with a tag. Superb, especially the 30kph lanes.

After making our tag debut last year, I'd say just take your time on approach, and aim for a big orange "t" above the lane. Any will do, unless it has the 2m height restriction of course, which tend to be far left (or "the fast lane" in some peoples eyes).
If you stay more to the right , you may just see the "t" combined with an added speed limit sign of 30 (kph, of course), in which case, not only can you use it, but you can get through without actually stopping. Usually far right, and don't be put off if you follow a lorry through... they'll keep moving too!

If you approach more central, just stick with a "t" rather than make a last minute lane change for a "keep moving lane".

To be fair, even without that speed limit sign, you only need to stop at the barrier (ignore/go past the ticket machine right up to the barrier) for a second or so, before you hear the beep, the light goes green, and the barrier goes up. It's not as if you have time to engage neutral and put the handbrake on!

It really is less daunting than it may appear.

Enjoy.

Well all went well, even did the straight through 30KPH lane (on the right) once.
