Even at 81mph you'll still be slower than the Belgians who seem to have a fabulous disregard for the speed limits!
Last year we towed with a land rover and were supposedly limited to 90kph, this year we are towing the same trailer with a smaller car and can go up to the 81mph mark.
You'll get a feel for it, providing the autoroutes are flowing it is best to move at a similar pace to everyone else and make time up at a toll booth with a tag.
(Frequently whizzed passed by someone towing at crazy speeds only to pass them at the peage!)

No, Kelper. I suspect that it is the same as over here. How many times have you heard of a one and a half ton van being fined for using the overtaking lane on a motorway?
It has been the law for several years now but is never enforced.

Twelve years ago I was done, driving up from the tunnel, overtaking in the third lane ... towing an Erde 123!
First I'd ever heard of the regulation!
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Some years ago whilst heading to the port of Caen, I was warned in advance the speed traps will let the locals whizz past, but target Brits. On The Spot Fines then.
With Brexit looming, will this be another imposition?
