We are lucky that the site we sta at they are happy to book from the Sunday, I think we would do the same elsewhere and simply arrive in the Sunday instead.

If you go to the website called 'Bison Flute' it is the French information site for travel. It has yearly timetables showing which are the most travelled routes and which weekends to avoid.
You can also go onto 'Via Michelin' and plot your route and date of travel and it will let you know the hot spots and what time of day to avoid travel on busy routes.

We now travel during the week or on Sundays to avoid the traffic queues and heavy traffic from freight lorries.

Yep same here always try and travel large part of journey on a Sunday as autoroutes often much quieter with little or no lorries. Downside can be Aires on the Autoroutes can be very busy with parked up lorries.
