We were robbed on an aire at Sigean a few years ago,we were asleep in van ,daughter one end us the other with bikes chairs awnings stuffed up center of van,we didn't here anything until a woman started screaming,we thought it was a domestic, then later found out she had her handbag on the dash of the car and the thieves smashed the window and grabbed the bag and ran off, then I got up to go outside for a ciggy, and our door was open,we had locked it earlier,we think they must have skeleton keys.when we looked to check our briefcase and bags we realized they had been stolen,we didnt here a thing. From then on never stopped on an aire again. And we are much more aware of where we put valubles ect.for the whole holiday. Its easy to be blase about it but you do have to strike a happy medium.where security is concerned.Friends of ours never lock thier van because they dont want it damaged, stupid really but they have never been robbed.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

We've never been robbed on any campsite, although I'm careful to have anything of value locked in the car not in the tent. Friends of ours who've been away for 6 weeks every summer for the last 10 years all over Europe have only ever had one theft - a bike off the back of their motorhome while parked up in a dodgy area of Lyon while they went to the football. I did find it odd the level of security at Camping Cayola in southern France a few years back - comforting but disconcerting at the same time, if that makes sense. I guess sometimes we drop our guard a bit on holiday but thieves are anywhere, you just have to take sensible precautions as you would at home.
