Maybe not "boring", but somehow I feel that you might miss out by not trying somewhere different. A quick "Google" suggested that there were over 11,000 campsites in France ranging from the very basic to 5 star. There must be some others worth trying.

Trouble is, you have to make that choice, the place you know well and enjoy v a gamble on trying somewhere new.
For the odd night it doesn't matter, but for a precious 2 week holiday it does.

There are, as Captain Lightning says, thousands of sites in France - and the time to try them is when you don't have children with you. Happy children make for happy holidays, and whilst you could hit lucky and find a site they like more, the likely possibility is that at the moment they will only find fault with any new site - the pool's not as nice, the table football table is too small, etc.

Capt Lightning - I just totted up and we have stayed at least two nights in each of the following departments: Normandy, Brittany, Sarthe, Maine et Loire, Vendee, Lot, Haute Pyranees, Correze, Deux Sevres, Aisne, Seine et Marne, Haut Rhin, Marne.

I have probably missed a few as well.

Perhaps I have nothing to worry about. I know there's plenty more to see in France, but there's no rush. Like you Pixie - we are forty-somethings - plenty of time left to see elsewhere!

it`s not abroad, but if you look here theres a green box on the left hand side with a quote in. thats me and my family. when i was a kid i would spend the whole summer holidays there and every half term. i now go back at least one week every year, with the odd weekend thrown in. love the area, love the site.

so if you like the site and the kids are happy, why not?

We go to France every year for just under a month and always roam around. We usually have a plan but it always depends on the weather.We tend to travel down through France using favourite sites on the way down and back., Le Chant d'Oiseau, Camping Bellevue being top of our list. We also try out new sites in areas we want to explore. The mix of old favourites and newly discovered sites suits us.

We too like to include a mix of old favourites and pastures new. I think it reduces expectations of new sites, if you know you're also guaranteed some quality time at a proven 'good' site or two.

If it was a case of having to choose between a site we know and love or an alternative in the same region, I'd personally go for the tried and tested. If the choice related solely to area, I'd try someplace new. The new, for me, is the excitement of travelling in France. Sometimes you hit the jackpot, sometimes you don't. When your entire holiday depends on it, the stakes are a bit higher.

I'd say go with whatever feels right for you and your family. There's no right or wrong answer here.

P..S. We've visited one particular site in France for periods of between 5 days and 3 weeks, almost every year since 2002, missing only when we couldn't get a pitch or when we couldnt travel at all. We didn't make it this year so I'm suffering withdrawal symptoms. Roll-on 2019, is what I say!

Although I started the thread suggesting I was a little boring, I do like finding new sites - or rather locations - and this website and forum is an excellent resource for finding little gems; I think that I have been using the collective knowledge and wisdom on this website for about 13 years!

We usually have just over a fortnight in France with an aim to be "settled" on a main site for around 9 nights. So that usually gives us scope to try something new on the way South and again on the way North. So you are right Franbee, the odd night you can gamble with, but this is our main holiday so we have been trying to take the risk out of it a little for the past few times.

Part of the equation in 2019 will be ferry prices. We live at the top of North Yorkshire so going from home via Hull/Zeebrugge is the most convenient, but it is eye-wateringly expensive. Tunnel is the cheapest (Tesco Points ) and the crossing good, but is a whole load more driving by-and-large. There is a very good chance that we will camp in Wiltshire first (clan gathering) then perhaps take Portsmouth/Caen or similar on the way out. We would probably aim to do Zeebrugge/Hull on the way back but again cost is a major factor.

Too many choices of crossings, routes, sites its like a military operation planning these things.....
