When I tried it earlier I got the download message, immediately but yesterday I got rid of all my browsing history and today I get to the normal website! So thanks for that. However, a word of warning, the searches for alternative numbers are right at the top of the 'Home Page' - don't click any of the buttons down below that or you'll get the dubious'Download..............' messages.

On the home page I am looking at there are no buttons or links below the ones at the top other than links to 'other sites' right at the bottom. Try as I might I can't find a 'download' message. Have you checked your computer for viruses?

However, I already have a PDF reader on my computer so perhaps something in the website is detecting you don't have a reader and is offering the download, but you don't need one for the website. I have Adobe Acrobat Reader which is a free PDF reader and works automatically if you wish to view or download a PDF file.

The link to click on is one at the top which states 'Search to find an alternative number'. That brings up a new page on which you can type either the business name or the premium number you have, then click search and it will bring up a list of alternative numbers.

Yes. 01303282061. That is the normal landline number that can be used instead of the the premium rate. There you go Claydon. You have a good result from your thread.

A bit late for me this time round keuken but there’s always next year. Thanks

Perhaps someone could post the alternative number for Eurotunnel?

I see that Ina got in a minute before my post went up, so it looks a bit odd. Sorry folks.

Yes, I noticed that too, 1 minute between our posts. Never mind, thought it was quite funny actually

At least people on here have the "normal" number now; it's something that really annoys me, those pesky 0845 numbers and now the fact that not only do you get charged extra, but that your phone provider also gets in on the act of fleecing people.

When I look at the Say No to 0870 website I get seven buttons across the top in a green banner, (and can now recognise that is it one of those which I should be using to look for numbers). Under those there is an advert for Travelodge, then under that a Welcome notice, an explanation in red of what the 0870 website does, then a block of six adverts for various other websites in blue boxes, and under those three options for Business Telephone, Business Number phone and Find a Customer Service. I clicked the middle one of these (thinking Eurotunnel is a Business Number phone.......) and the Download message came up at that point.

Under all those is another explanation of the website!

I have used the website lots of time before, but really do think they could improve the look of their home page to make the actual box you need to use much more visible and in a more obvious part of the website!

I have an ad blocker so I don't get the advertisements you mention.

Directly under the green banner is the Welcome message in a big yellow box. No adverts within it and no links to Business telephone, number phone or customer service. The only link inside the yellow box containing the welcome message is right at the bottom...a link to terms and conditions for using the site.

Below the welcome message outside the yellow box are 3 links to other sites Free Birthday Lottery, Banking Swift Codes, and Company Debt.

Then right at the bottom of the page is the website copyright info and that's it.

10 adverts are being blocked on the home page which might account for your Travelodge one, the 6 blue boxes and also the 3 business links of which you clicked on one.

I agree that it isn't immediately clear which link to click on to find a number but without all those adverts on your screen it would be much more clear.

Can I recommend uBlock Adblocker Plus which works well on Chrome unless you enjoy adverts on all the websites you visit.

I’ve just booked the tunnel using my Tesco Vouchers.
£50 in vouchers with triple boost plus £10 to top it up to £160 - going out May, back in July.

I’ll have enough left to book a second Crossing later in the year.

It’s a great deal, let’s hope it doesn’t suffer the fate of some other Tesco deals.

Is that car / caravan? if so how the heck did you manage to get it at that price? as one way is more than £160.

XVI yes?

As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

No, no. We store the caravan in France (Indoor for €200 per annum - details on request) - we drive down solo via the Tunnel. It’s by far the best and cheapest way to do it.

If you need a caravan in UK, you can buy a cheap one for France with no worries about water ingress because it’s cosy and dry all winter. Or if you spend most leisure time in France, buy a cheap UK Caravan- that’s what we do.

The saving in time, fuel, channel crossings etc means it virtually pays for itself. ((Our storage is near Angers)
