You know what? Ask your vet if you’re unsure of anything regarding the passport or vaccinations. They are the experts.

Ask DEFRA
I adopted a dog from Turkey, unlisted country, DEFRA website was very clear and you can ring them, they have a section which deals with pets etc.
I don't know but logic would dictate if you allow a rabies jab to "expire" the dog will not be protected for that period and you run the risk of having to have a blood test carried out on having the new rabies jab.
As I said I don't know for certain but DEFRA will!

The Defra site can't give a definitive answer as it all depends on the outcome of Brexit negotiations.

If your dog has had a rabies jab and been blood tested from a recognised lab showing the required results, providing you have all that recorded and a letter or note from a registered vet that the animal is "fit to travel" you will be ok.
Of course you need the worming treatment carried out in accordance with the regulations, again certified by a qualified vet .
There is no actual requirement for a European Pet Passport , it is a matter of convenience.
How do I know this? I brought my dog back from Turkey and did not have an European Pet Passport, how would you get one in Turkey?
Obviously the dog has to me microchipped and all f the paper work linked to the microchip number.
Incidentally I am currently in Turkey, with the dog, we travel out here every year, stay for sometimes up to 6 months and then return.
Been doing it for 5 years now, only place anybody checks paperwork is at Calais!
If we crash out there is a likelihood the UK could be designated an " unlisted country" so that is why a blood test might be required.
If we crash out it does not mean an end to taking your pet abroad you just need to comply with the rules.
As I travel every year and have to get an "export licence" from DEFRA to take my dog into Turkey they had sent me details of what was needed if we left. I guess they had all my details, e mail etc on their records so it was an automated delivery.
The question to me seems to be whether you need to have your dog or pet blood tested. A pain in the what's it and more expense but it is not insurmountable, there are strict time limits though.

Hi All,

Spoke to the vet and no need for a new passport but with the rabies jab they gave our two it is valid for three years but requires a booster after one year hence my confusion. Anyway, all sorted :)

Now I'm confused, it's a three year vaccine but requires a booster after a year.

The vet can't tell you what is required as there are several different requirements depending on the outcome of Brexit.

Tsk Tsk Nora, wrong side of bed?

I'm with saxo, it's a case of 'sorry don't know', 'what does it say on website', 'oh I'd need to phone and ask', 'it's all as clear as mud to me'.

I could go on, but you get the gist of it.

I think that even if Brexit happened tomorrow, they will not impose draconian restrictions immediately and there will be some flexibility.
At the moment even the expert vet cannot give you a definite answer.
Booster is only required after 3 years and not one year.

Not at all. I just don’t get why people come on these forums and ask these questions when the majority of the people being asked are are just as clueless.

Hmmmm...sounds suspiciously like your vet has entered the wrong info in the passport...3 year vaccine means booster in 3 years.

With everything about Brexit - and subsequently pet passports - so uncertain, shared updates, opinions and experiences are interesting and informative, IMHO.
