I thought that there is a difference between the ACSI ID card and the discount card, which comes with the books?

Harbourmaster is after the latter and, since I have one which has not been used, I was happy to let him have it. It only lasts to the end of December anyway.

JoannaLesley its arrived thankyou so much, really appreciated.
And for some on here do not worry I will be buying one for next year.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

Yes, more often than not, we just show our ACSI card (Not ACSI ID card).
Some keep it for the duration of the stay/until paid, some just note down the name and address etc and return the card immediately.

Before I had ACSI, we used to give a photocopy of passports (which we take with us).
Happy to show them the actual passport, and allow them to photocopy if they wish, but never would I leave the actual passport with a stranger for more than a minute or so. That goes for anywhere, be that camp site, hotel, whatever. If they insisted they keep it, I'd go elsewhere (which has never occurred, I may add!)

On the site I referred to, they wanted to see our passports, but did not want to keep them. Like you, no issue with that. We wouldn't let any campsite keep our passports either, and have never been asked to leave them on any campsite.
