its a lovely area if you have kids and you catch the weather right. we have not had a bad holiday yet in august but our neighbors usually go for 3 weeks and they have had some violent storms. during one a tree blew down and flattend their awning. luckily they were out for the day so no one was injured.

Always stopped at Bahamas Beach caravan site
30 min walk to town or $1 bus journey or cycle route


Have been Cherbourg and Caen previously
Got time this year for a stop off, hence from Calais.
Then 16 nights stop
Then 4 nights somewhere else in France on way back.
Always had decent weather so far

the beach at st gilles is huge and sandy and is good for body boarding but perhaps not so good for todlers to paddle.

we usually drive from Caen as it takes 5-6hrs towing. we have also driven from roscoff but that takes longer.

i was considering using the tunnel this year but have opted for the portsmouth caen ferry again, its expensive but i thikn with the additional fuel and road tolls there is no saving but a lot more driving. (takes me 4h to the tunnel) i hate the ferry but an additional 8h driving weach way tips the balance for me. actually my son asked me last night 'whats good about the ferry' 'abolutely nothing' i replied. he had been asking me why i was flying to bordeaux next week for my work.
