Crit'Air sticker - this does not apply only in cities and there are quite a few zones now (the whole Vendee department for example). Have a look at the Green Zones app which will show you where the zones are and if you decide you need one buy it from the official site where it will cost about 4 - https://www.certificat-air.gouv.fr/ - Remember it doesn't stop with buying the sticker ... You then need to be aware of what restrictions are (or aren't) in place at any given time for your class of vehicle and this will vary from zone to zone. Again the Green Zones app will give details of any restrictions on a daily basis.

where did you get the info re the whole of the vendee now requiring a crit air sticker? i think it makes sense to have one anyway, but i havent heard about the blanket vendee requirement?

The Vende is one of many zones covered by a ZPAd ... Restrictions can be announced in the event of high pollution levels. There are no restrictions currently in place but iirc certain classes were restricted for a short period last summer. When this happens vehicles without a sticker are obviously the first to be restricted (other classes depending on level of problem) hence the need to be prepared if travelling in a zone such as this.

As mentioned above, the Green Zones app lists all such zones and the daily restriction status.
