But despite precautions one or two people on a campsite can be diagnosed with Covid - and then you would have a situation like the campsite in Spain which has been reported today in another post, where everyone on the site is quarantined there and not allowed to leave .

That is very real possibility.Infection rates are on the increase again.

We're currently in France, having been here for nearly two weeks in total. We spent 3 nights on a campsite in the Vendee. The site had hand sanitizer in the toilet block and the indoor amusements were closed. Although there was info re their other Covid policies I didn't actually see anything different. The site was very quiet though.
We've been wearing masks in every shop and restaurant (until at our table) and most of French are also doing this. All the shops have hand sanitizer and spray for cleaning trolleys.
In France social distancing is currently at 1m, which is obviously a lot less than we're used to at home, and in busy tourist towns even this is difficult to stick to at times.
I don't feel any more at risk here than at home, probably slightly less at risk overall as we've spent most of our time here in a very rural area.

Thanks for this Argente4. It would appear that precautions in France are generally as good or as bad as here in the UK. We have very little doubt that we will be heading off on our trip in late August unless something dramatic happens in the meantime. Any of us could be quarantined at any moment anywhere I guess so it's all about calculated risks. Enjoy what's left of the summer folks as winter and all that entails is just around the corner.

Brittany is now classified as a Red Zone due to the increase in infections!

I wouldn’t count on any trip taking place.
For a visual map of what is going on in France search Visactu coronavirus or Visactu deconfinement for a picture of the statistics.

We just arrived home after three weeks in France. I got the impression, that the French don’t care much about COVID-19.
Yes, they hang the obligatory signs with the government's recommendations for behaviour, distribute dispensers with disinfectants everywhere and many employees wear masks. But nobody checks (or cares) if the recommendations are followed, if the masks cover mouth and nose (and raised visors, as seen in many restaurants staff, help even less) and if the disinfectant is used.
Where the wearing of masks is not mandatory, but only recommended, they are hardly ever worn. Large groups of people gather at the beaches, without any distance, but with many hugs and kisses as a greeting.
We kept our distance and reduced our contacts with others to what was necessary. But we are doing the same at home at the moment.
No, this is not normally what we think of as a holiday, but it is better than no holiday at all. Much better.

Do most travellers through France feel safer there than in UK or are their precautionary measures too lax in comparison on the sites and in the shops/public spaces?

I feel safer in France, I was in the UK last week on a flying visit and walked out of a Tesco store because it was like a cattle market!

Is it just me or is keyboard warrior a real doom monger?... every post is just doom and gloom. If you don’t want to go abroad then don’t, but please don’t criticise those who do and constantly post doom messages.

I have lived in France for the last 11 years, full time.Owned a campsite, run a business, had children go through the school system.
The others that post on here are holiday makers, second home owners or retired living in a bubble with others that live on UK pensions.
I have friends in the medical profession and they have friends in the medical profession ,I watch the news and keep informed.
I don’t bury my head in the sand and pretend everything is rosy because I don’t get out of my expat bubble.

Maybe people have decided that they're willing to accept the risks associated with going abroad, I don't believe I have my head buried in the sand like you say and have watched lots of news articles and listen to lots of views from either side. I now understand why you post such negative views on travel abroad, your basically worried we will bring it with us and spread it which I get completely. Unfortunately French borders aren't just open to the UK and people will come from all over the world. What profession in medicine do your friends and their friends do and what is it they are telling you?.

I can understand every person's concerns re staying safe and trying to enjoy their trip away wherever it may be to, but feel it has to be up to each individual to make their own judgement call. We'll keep an eye on the numbers of new cases in France in particular then either remain in the UK or press ahead with our planned tour de France.
