Bit late to the replies here, we usually start and finish in similar places but travel on the A16, A28, A29 (over the Pont Du Normandie), A84, N175 (stop over at Pontorson - close to Mont St Michel) then head further south the following day (via Rennes & Nantes), this saves us having to worry about Rouen, although we did stop near Rouen one night when we had a trailer and used to camp
