Hi MG1

I've emailed the French consulate. They say they'll reply within 7 days. I'll post on here if they come back with anything that helps.

I also have a double jabbed 16 year old. She is getting boosted before we go though. Again, it isn't clear if she *had* to be boosted but we didn't see a downside to it.

Could you not get your 16 year old boosted before you go? Perhaps at a walk in clinic? Or is it too soon after the second jab?

TC

I got a pretty boiler-plate reply from the French Consulate:
>>>>>>>>>>
Dear Sir/ Madam,

Please see https://uk.ambafrance.org/COVID19-Conditions-de-deplacement-entre-la-France-et-le-Royaume-Uni for full details on the current travel rules to travel to France.

Note that the French Consulate cannot offer personalised guidance.
<<<<<<<<<

So I had a further dig

The "Travelling with children under 18" on this webpage https://uk.ambafrance.org/COVID-19-rules-for-travel-between-France-and-the-UK-28918 is about the most understandable info I can find.

Coupled with this I also found (on the Norweigan Institute of Public Health website) some wording which I also saw on an EU website which states:

"New: Children under 18 do not need a booster dose for a valid COVID-19 certificate
The EU recently decided that children under the age of 18 have a valid COVID-19 certificate indefinitely after primary vaccination. Primary vaccination means that they have had two vaccine doses, or one vaccine dose and they can document that they have also had COVID-19 disease. The EU has asked all countries to adapt their own rules to this as soon as possible, and no later than 6 April."

So I *think* my 12 year old is ok having had 2 doses. I also think MG1 that your 16 year old will either have to have a second jab or a test before you go.

TC

Thanks for the information. Both my 13 and 16yr are double jabbed so I'll just take a letter off NHS to prove this, thanks again.

We travelled over to France on Saturday night. Rather than worry ourselves sick with whether we needed boosters erc.. we decided to get £11 Randox tests, do them ourselves and upload to the Randox app. This then generated a certificate to show the French border police people. They were not checked at all. We handed in our passports, which were stamped, and sent on our way. I'm glad we didn't spend a fortune on "Gold Plated" PCR tests at £40 or £50 each!!

Thanks for the update. I have heard the same anecdotally about Dover and Folkestone crossings. Not heard anything about how strict they are being about longer (less busy) crossings. We are crossing Portsmouth / Caen early in August so would be interesting to know if the French are being particular in Caen.

For what it's worth, a mate and I have just been to France for 5 days and returned Tues, on the Portsmouth-Caen ferry, no one checked our Covid status at any point (we had all the Vacs and paperwork in order and ready to show), but a friend who travelled on a different ferry had his Covid status checked, his NHS App on his phone (which was foolishly the ONLY record he had) failed at the check in kiosk and he couldn't prove his status, they then refused to let him board the ferry!

He had to sort his NHS App out to get his status in a presentable manner, and travel on later on a different ferry AND new ticket, whilst rest of his gang went without him on original ferry booking! Some of the gang waited at the French port for him to catch up on the next ferry, but a massive inconvenience AND extra expense of an extra foot passenger ticket.

Moral of the story, you may or may not be checked, BUT for goodness sake get a backup electronic PDF copy on phone AND a hard paper copy of status, DON'T rely on NHS App alone as your only status record!
