Thanks so much Allan, we hadn't considered Italy and are having a look this afternoon.
I am hopeful that worst of the symptoms will have gone by the summer and today I managed a 5 mile walk but sustained driving wipes me out.
We flew to Verona then taxi to Peschiera del Garda, you can get the train but it involves going away from Garda into Verona first, we thought taxi well worth it. We stayed at the small Camping Cappucini, or as someone else said theres the larger Bella Italia next door; right on the lake shore, nice restaurant, 1km walk along the lake shore to the ferry port with regular lake ferries to Sirmione, Bardolino, Malcesine (from which there is a cable car to the top of Monte Balde), etc. Also 1km walk to the town market (weekly I think) and a further 1km walk into Peschiera town; 0.5km to a bus stop to Sirmione, etc, 1.2km walk to a Lidl, though probably need a taxi home from there.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
