Another good website apart from campingfrance.com is www.campingo.com . I suppose the cheapness of the fuel is relative to what you are paying now! Ours here is on average 96p per gallon whereas we were paying in the Sof much less than that- I will check with hubby later.

Where is this/ I paid 94p a litre near Bristol today.

French fuel was only about 5p a litre cheaper than UK fuel in Feb, I imagine the price will have gone up in line with UK prices and it will still be about 5p a litre cheaper. Its not half the price or anything!

Hi

We went with our tent for the first time this year and had a ball. We crossed with Speedferries (they have height & length restrictions and only allow small trailers) for £50 rtn (2 adults/3 kids in Espace with bike rack).

Stopped in Sarthe on the way down in the most picturesque b & b -see www.tuffiere.com for the grand total of £70 in beautiful huge room with 5 course dinner for 2 adults (inc wine and aperitifs) and breakfast for 5-thought I'd died and gone to heaven! Then had 11 nights on www.lepong.com in the Vendee on an extra large pitch with EHU (didn't need adaptor by the way) for approx £25 per night. On way back stopped in Formule 1 hotel (2 rooms) for just over £50 inc breakfast then another night in small Logis de France hotel in Normandy -again 2 rooms approx £80 inc breakfast. Petrols costs inc all sightseeing roughly £200, tolls around £60-£70. Driving on French roads was a pleasure-soon got back to reality trying to get home on the M25/M1 and M6-total nightmare.

It was the best holiday we have had in years and I would recommend camping in France to anyone. Go and enjoy!!

Julie

We have been travelling to France for about 14 years now and I still love it and still want to keep going and as its such a vast area with differing things to see and do I think we have a fair few years to go before we (if at all) exhaust it!

One year we travelled down south to Port Grimaud, on the Golfe de St Tropez, after two days travelling we had finally arrived at Domaine de Naides and wanted to see the sea so trundled down, across a small road and cut through Prairies de la Mer. As we were approaching the beach the sun was just starting to set, we could hear a caribbean band playing soft music, we stepped onto the beach and all around were the twinkling lights on the Golfe, people were sat sipping their drinks listening to the music and the water was sooo warm as we went for a paddle. We stood and looked around and just said 'Wow'.....we'd found heaven!

At nearby St Tropez you can mingle with people who at that time were paying £500 a night to berth their boats. We were seeing the same sights as them, swimming in the same sea, looking in the same shops (though maybe not buying!! LOL) and I think that holiday probably cost us £500 all in!

France can be as expensive or as cheap as you want to make it. If you shop around, get a good ferry deal, find a decent campsite at a reasonable price (check out the suggestions and recommendations on this site) and shop like the majority of french people do then you won't go far wrong. You will be rewarded with a holiday that you will just want to repeat and repeat!

At our place here in the Loire Valley, you'll pay round about £13/night in high season for a tent with EHU and a family of 4. In low season, it's less than a tenner. Ferries are cheap enough if you book them in advance, maybe through one of the clubs? Speedferries are doing some good deals at the 'mo.

Shop like the locals and you'll get good value for money. Food is generally fresh around here, it is the garden of France after all! Wine's cheap, and exeptional quality.
