Drive on the right and you'll be ok.  If you forget and drive on the left and happen to get stopped by the gendarmes before you remember which side you should be on, you'll be given a 90 euro on the spot fine. If you have no way of paying ie. cash or cheque, they hang on to your driving license and you have to follow them to the nearest cash point, they won't let you off, even if you smile nicely!

How do I know?  After 10 years + driving in France with no mistakes, last month I forgot, it's very easy when you are tired and have been using the peage for over 5 hours and then come off at a junction without a roundabout.

So don't forget - KEEP RIGHT!!!!

Have a fantastic holiday, you'll love France, whichever part you visit.

After working in Germany for 4 years I did exactly that when leaving the M6 at Sandbach

Fortunately no French police or oncoming traffic

You have to be vigilant (or your partner does) when you return as well

Last summer I decided to take the kids out for a bit of a drive - it was raining and Himself needed a bit of Space To Finish His Masterpiece - so off we set.  Now normally Himself drives and I navigate.  But I can do it - it is not unknown for YT to head off the SuperU Entirely Alone, so as not to drag the kiddiwinks away from the pool.  The roads around the campsite were quiet rural roads and I very cunningly memorised a route that meant I drove more or less in a square turning right every time.  Got along fine, confidence grew mightily.  Then I decided to drive into Bressuire to find a Cave the owners had told me about.  The entrance was right on a roundabout.  Drove up to the Cave to investigate the opening times, got back in the car, down to the roundabout and promptly turned left!!!  I'm sorry to admit it but a certain Four Letter Word escaped my lips, much to the huge joy of the small people in the back, who couldn't WAIT to tell Daddy that Mummy had said the F-word!  I claim extreme provocation. Luckily for me it was a sunday and there was nothing coming the other way round the roundabout!

So just be vigilant - but I'm sure everyone drives on the wrong side at least once, don't they?  Please don't say its just me......
