Liz you missed a treat in the Auvergne and really must go back.  The extinct volcanoes are fascinating, you can go up the puy de dome and not far away is Mont Dore with a cable car to take you most of the way up.

The gorges, rivers and lakes are fab and we too went canoeing.  Our site had a river running behind it and it was just glorious to go and lie in the water on a hot day.  I reckon we might well end up there again this year.  Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.  2 weeks to go.....

Anywhere in France is wonderful. I love it all. I couldnt choose a favourite place because I just love it all and like Liz each year is the best yet. This year we  are going to the Charente, just east of Niort and I cant find a guide book which bodes well for a tourist free, real french holiday.

              i personally think it's very hard to decide which part of

               France you would prefer when you decide to move here

               permantley.Holidays are wonderful to see different parts

               of the country,but you have to consider what you will

               do when you arrive in your chosen area.Will you be

               working or retired?I hope i'm not putting you off by writing

              this,my OH is an artisian,so has found work easily,but

              that may not be the same for all.If you do decide on The

              Loire,pop in for a cuppa,and a chat !!!!!

It's a long way off yet before we do eventually move, too many deciding factors at the moment - cash, work,language, kids etc. We just know it's something that we really want to do in the future but for now we are still dreaming, we might steal Stu's 5 year plan for now and learn the language and start saving etc.

We love the Vendee - but inland.  The weather is lovely, comparable with the South of France.  The people there are lovely and the food, and the wine, and the markets......... Ah me!  Back there in less than 7 weeks

We love France and our favourite part is always the last part we visited ! We think it would be a great place to live but have four children who would be devastated if they had to move there,(in fact they would probably choose to remain here with relatives) they think they would be bored and have restricted career opportunities. They love it for hols but I think if you are going to move to France with children its best to do it whilst they are young. We know a few people whose kids have returned to England  mainly for the work and social life.
