Thanks Val, Amanda and jonellis (it's on my list!!!!). i know you're right - must just book somewhere/anywhere. i like the idea of putting them into a hat. What sort of hat do you suggest and be polite!!

One of those colourful 'rasta' type (large) hats! (You know, bright red, yellow and green stripes, the sort of thing your granny might crochet!!!). Cheerful, as well as large enough to hold all these suggestions.
Hi Claire- dont worry- I like getting lots of info first before I make a decision about anything. Snap- I live in Surrey too.
Do your family have any must haves- in order to narrow down your choices?
eg near a beach, countryside, is it important to have waterslides in the pool?walking distance to anything? quiet site versus noisy? do you want to be on a site not used by British firms?
what are the most important features- area/facilities/price?
hi there, im in the process of trying to find a campsite in vendee. Can i ask you what sort of price are you looking at per night. its just that i think its easy to pay over the odds if you dont know where to look !!!!

i saw your post regarding quotes of 45 euros. the only time i've seen prices that high was in the south (languedoc). you will pay more for coastal sites and the further south you go. you will also pay more depending on the facilities offered. I think you were looking at ile de re? we have visited this area and it is beautiful but the toll charge has to be taken into consideration and the sites seem to be quite expensive in general. we are looking at smaller sites in the dordogne and dont want entertainment on site. OH would like a pool on site as he is unsure about a hoilday that doesnt involve the coast at some point. However, i would not be prepared to pay 45+ euros per night - after the initial lay out for the kit I was hoping camping would be fairly cheap! Claire
Yes we are looking at the ile de re. We are hearing so many possitives about this place. We love to cylce so it sounds ideal. Yes the toll is expensive but we dont wish to leave the island. We are going on up to Normandy after 10 days on the island so we will be seeing other places. For 2 adults and 3 kids we are having a problem getting the cost under 45 euros per night.
One thing i have heard about ile de re is there is an insect problem. Is this really the case ?? I think i read somewhere on this forum that one family were driven off the beach. Is it really a problem.
The town Limeuil & the campsite on the opposite side of the river are positioned where the Dordogne & Vezere rivers meet. We stayed there last june where the temperatures reached 34 degrees. The site is clean & very well situated for exploring all the tourist spots on both rivers. There are plenty of things for kids to do on the site, & the restaurant last year was geared up for football fans (bar, TV). Canoeing is a big thing, & although the rivers are fairly wide they are generally not too deep. You can hire canoes at loads of spots down both rivers.

Just found this one. http://www.campinglabutte.com/gb/lieux.htm. Whilst I'm not sure about the evening entertainment it looks really nice. Anyone been? Its also very reasonable, Claire
