We've booked Portsmouth to Le Havre in August for a car & caravan and 5 passengers for £280 - and that includes cabins. We too have a toddler and I wouldn't consider Dover > Calais unless we were staying in North/East France (especially as we live in Wales and have a heck of a drive to start off with!) ....oh and that was with LD Lines

I'd love to know how you managed that, we got a quote for car plus trailer tent plus 5 people (2 adults and 3 children) and needed 2 cabins as we can't get a 5 berth cabin and the cheapest we could get was over £500 in August. It's just not worth it.

My quotes were around the £700+ mark, but this included the bank holiday

we have looked and found it cheaper to book a package in a tent that is already up £499 or 10 days in Aug inc Cherbourg crossings, the cost of the ferry and pitch fees independantly worked out more and this way i have more room for wine.

Apologies....it was £293 and here is the breakdown from the confirmation I received. I know there are 5 of us but we will sleep the toddler in with one of the kids - so we only booked 1 x 4 berth cabin and 1 x seat (we won't use the seat)

Hey, bargainous!! I'd looked at trying to get away with one cabin as our youngest will only be just turned 3, hoever it wouldn't let me and I hadn't thought of booking the seat and not using it....cunning!! Will bear that in mind for next year.

Our little man is 3 in May, so he's about the same age as yours. The ferry people aren't going to come round knocking on doors to see how many people you have in your cabin - and if they do, I'll pop the little 'un on the loo (it's ensuite) LOL. Ways round everything.....

I may just take his ready bed (he has the 'my first ready bed' which is only small)...just in case he doesn't want to sleep in the bunk with his sister. There won't be much room, but it's better than paying for 2 cabins!

children up to 4 don't count for occupancy in cabins.

Newhaven Dieppe is dead cheap and you can have a well smart cabin for 20 quid so we nap on the journey.
